Literature Text

Beneath the boughs of the rowan tree
sits a long forgotten she.
The girl that once longed to be free.
The girl that once belonged to me.

Wicked licks of time's cruel tongue
takes away that once was young.
Sweetest flesh from bones is wrung.
Long lost sighs and songs unsung.

Forever there shall beauty be.
Faded lace upon her knee.
Beneath the boughs of the rowan tree
she sits. She sits and waits for me.
On my way to work I walk underneath rows of trees. These trees are all over the town I live in, with their trademark leaves and large clusters of tiny white flowers in early summer who turn to large clusters of bright red berries with the fall.
I walked and had the image of this poem forming within my mind. The idea of eternal wait was teasing me since I woke up. I walked and looked up and thought "I wonder what these are called in English.. "
I knew what they were called but there was some digging I had to do in my mind to find the word, but when I found the word the first two and last two lines of this piece simply exploded into my mind and demanded attention.

Over seven hours later, this is what I have made of it. I hope someone likes it.

Beautiful poem! The imagery is very very strong, and the message and meaning are very clear and sweet.
The one thing that could be improved or changed would be the rhyming. The rhyme pattern seems a bit forced and unnecessary. The poem would be much more natural and easy on the reader if either the rhyme scheme was different, or there were no rhymes at all. Although the latter of the two would be less advisable, because the last line of the poem wouldn't be as strong if it didn't rhyme with anything.
Overall, great poem but the rhymes are a bit forced.
